How cheats worked in earlier GTA games
| Game | Year | How you entered cheats |
|---|---|---|
| GTA: Vice City | 2002 | Button combos (console), typed words (PC) |
| GTA: San Andreas | 2004 | Button combos (console), typed words (PC) |
| GTA 4 | 2008 | Phone numbers only |
| GTA 5 | 2013 | Button combos, phone numbers, PC console |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | 2018 | Cheat phrases unlocked through newspapers |
Rockstar's most recent game, Red Dead Redemption 2, moved cheats into the world itself. GTA 6 could do the same — for example through the phone or an in-game app. Until launch, nobody knows. GTA 5's full cheat list is here in the meantime.
